Some of the Best Moments of the LA Lakers

The LA Lakers is perhaps the most loved and the most hated team in NBA history. They have a very colorful NBA history from championship streaks to game winning clutch shots. Some of the greatest NBA players have come from this team. The LA Lakers, the purple and gold team that has made history before our eyes, have made us jump for joy, cry in despair, and simply enjoy the sport called basketball.

Below are just a few of the many memorable moments in the life of the LA Lakers. You will remember these events with fondness if you are true blue Lakers fan.

The name Lakers was derived from the place where they originally came from which has many lakes. They were the Minnesota Lakers until 1960 when they relocated to Los Angeles, and this is where the team began to excel to become one of the greatest and most adored teams in the NBA. The LA Lakers following is nothing that the NBA had ever seen before.

The next best moment for the Lakers was when Jerry Buss bought the team in 1979 and instilled new skill sets to the team. With this ownership came the drafting of Magic Johnson who would be instrumental in making the LA team a force to be reckoned with in court.

Even disappointments and failures in the teams history can be considered something memorable as well. In 1991 Magic Johnson confessed to having HIV and retired from the team to the worlds utter shock. This contributed much to the decline of the teams performance in the following years.

Kobe Bryant, fresh out of high school and who was to be the greatest player in Lakers history, was drafted in 1996. He was traded to the Lakers after being the 13th pick for the Charlotte Hornets who got Vlade Divac instead. This trade would change the history of the LA Lakers and the whole NBA as well.

Another force to be reckoned with was the Kobe-Shaq tandem. Shaq signed up with the LA Lakers in 1996 after a few years stint with the Orlando Magic. Although Shaq and Kobe had many differences, the two rebuilt the brand and reputation of the team, winning the NBA championships for 3 consecutive years from 2000 to 2002.

One memorable Kobe Bryant moment was when he totaled 81 points in a single game against the raptors.

Other moments include the back to back championships in 2009 and 2010, the injury and retirement of Kobe Bryant, and the signing up of LeBron James.
